WAM MBH High Efficiency Micro-batch Feeders

Versatile, accurate, durable, for ultra-low material residue

The MBH ensures ultra-low residue in the continuous volumetric feeding of powdery or granular materials.

MBH

Single-screw feeders like the MBH are ideal for feeding products in the form of pellets, flakes, powders, or granules. From the point of view of hygiene and quality/consistency from batch to batch, the challenge in feeding such high-value ingredients is to do so accurately and with minimal residual product left in the feeder from batch to batch, from fractions to hundreds of dm³ per hour.

Like the venerable, heavy-duty MBF micro-batch feeders by WAM before it, the MBH features a blending chamber from which a feeder screw extracts the blended material at an accurate volumetric rate for downstream feeding into further equipment or a container. Thanks to multiple patent-pending components, the MBH succeeds in minimizing product residue between batches, as well as product contamination from outside sources and the machine itself. This is true both for free-flowing materials and for poorly-flowing or adhesive materials that tend to clog. The machine achieves a feeding accuracy of ±1~2%.

The MBH is a sturdy, compact system. In the standard version the surfaces that come in contact with the fed material (i.e., the blending chamber and the feeder pipe) are manufactured entirely from 316L SS stainless steel. The blending chamber contains no welding seams or cavities in which material residue could accumulate. The front of the chamber is sealed tightly with a transparent scratch-resistant polycarbonate cover that makes it possible to inspect the blending process at any time.

Thanks to decades-old experience of WAMGROUP's MAP mixer division, the blending tool has been designed for high-quality blending across a wide range of rotation speeds. The machine uses a single, high-efficiency electric motor coupled with a lubrication-free gearbox to drive both the blending tool and the feeding/metering screw. The gearbox assembly is detached from the product-processing components, further eliminating possible sources of batch contamination.

Cleaning and maintenance is quick, easy, and ergonomic, as all parts that come in contact with the product batches can be easily removed. This includes the feeding and metering tools, which are magnetically quick-coupling to the drive socket.

MBH versions

The system can be specified in 4 different configurations:

  1. Standard, with all non-drive parts made entirely in glass-bead-blasted 316L SS stainless steel.
  2. With a blending chamber and feeder pipe made out of WAM's wear-resistant SINT engineering polymer.
  3. As (1), with EN 1935/2004 certification for food-grade materials handling.
  4. As (2), with EN 1935/2004 certification for food-grade materials handling, and the food-grade variant of the SINT engineering polymer.

The MBH micro-batch feeder can also be equipped with accessories such as a vertical spout, a hopper (optionally with grille and/or driven agitator), and hopper vibrators. It is also possible to use the system in a loss-in-weight feeding/metering process thanks to the compatible platform frame with load cells.
